Duquesne Matches Nonprofits with Board Members Through Speed Dating

January 17, 2008

WHAT: Duquesne’s Boards-by-Design is hosting a “Nonprofit Speed Dating” event in conjunction with the New Trustees for a New Pittsburgh.

An innovative program, Boards-by-Design is designed to benefit nonprofits, businesses and individuals by connecting nonprofit organizations with qualified board candidates.

Similar to actual speed dating, individual nonprofit representatives and potential board candidates will sit with each other during this event for 5-minute increments to learn more about each other.  When the bell rings after five minutes, the individual candidate will move to the next table with a nonprofit representative.  The candidates and nonprofits will find out the next day how many “matches” were made.

Nonprofits who have participated in past speed-dating events include Venture Outdoors, Preservation Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

Founded in 2001, Boards-by-Design works to help organizations diversify the age, race, gender and physical abilities of board members. Boards-by-Design is a program of the Nonprofit Leadership Institute in the School of Leadership and Professional Advancement at Duquesne University.
