WHAT: The Duquesne University Contemporary Ensemble will open its new
concert season with a unique, multi-media performance of Orpheus.
Under the interim direction of David Cutler, this unusual performance is
based upon William Bolcom’s Orpheé-Serenade, a musical portrayal of the
ancient, romantic story of Orpheus and Eurydice, and the events that divide
and eventually unite the couple.
During the concert, the Duquesne musicians will play costumed character
roles while performing the score, combining drama, dance, poetry, staging,
lighting and projected images.
A staged composition based on poetry by San Francisco beat poet Lawrence
Ferlenghetti is also on the program.
Tickets, which are $10 and $5 for students, can be purchased at the event.
