Renowned Liturgical Composer Marty Haugen to Perform at Duquesne University

August 24, 2007

Marty Haugen, one of the most widely sung liturgical composers today, will participate in a performance at Duquesne University that features and benefits disabled young adults.

Agape: The Stories and the Feast, a narration of Bible stories, will feature singers and dancers with physical and mental disabilities, including those participating in the St. Anthony’s School at the University and at other locations. The performance will start at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Duquesne Union Ballroom. Tickets for children and students with IDs are $10; tickets for adults are $35 at the door. Proceeds will benefit The Celebration of Life, which is working toward housing and employing adults with disabilities.

Haugen, who is known for such songs and hymns as We Are Many Parts, We Remember and Shepherd Me, O God, also will present a Concert of Healing and Hope at Duquesne on Monday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Duquesne University Ballroom. Tickets for children and students with IDs are $10; tickets for adults are $35 at the door. Again, proceeds will benefit The Celebration of Life.

“Sept. 11 is in our national consciousness,” said Stephen J. Steinbeiser, liturgy director of Spiritan Campus Ministry at Duquesne, co-sponsor of the events. “We’re living in the awareness of what could happen next. If we can all be people of peace, people of hope and healing, we may never have to have 9/11 again.”

Information on an additional performance of Agape and other area events involving Haugen are available online at www.thecelebrationoflife.net.
