Make-a-Wish VP Receives Anthony L. Bucci Award for Excellence in Communication Ethics

January 11, 2007

Duquesne alumna Ann Fisher Hohn was recently presented with the Anthony L. Bucci Award for Excellence in Communication Ethics from the Department of Communication & Rhetorical Studies at Duquesne University.

Citing her commitment to nonprofit communication, the communication & rhetorical studies faculty selected Hohn from a wide range of communication professionals.  A 1983 graduate of the communication program in Duquesne’s McAnulty College of Liberal Arts, Hohn is vice president of communications for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.  She has served that organization since 1992.

“Bucci Award recipients exemplify our hopes for Duquesne communication graduates,” said Dr. Kathleen Roberts, chair of the Communication Ethics Center.  “Each year it is given to someone who lives out Duquesne’s mission to serve, and who paves the way for ethics to thrive in the marketplace.  Ann Fisher Hohn was the perfect choice.”

Hohn has been recognized as a consummate professional by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), winning a Silver Anvil Award in 1988.  In 2004, she served as president of PRSA’s Pittsburgh chapter and continues to contribute to the education of future communication professionals.

Hohn accepted the award at a special ceremony held by the Department of Communication & Rhetorical Studies.  Nearly 200 students and faculty from the department attended the event.  Students provided an eager audience for Hohn’s remarks, which included advice on the importance of academics.  She said that the most important thing students can do is read.  “Events like this one are also very important in learning for your future,” she said.

Hohn is a resident of Sarver.
