Duquesne University recently named Christine
M. Ostrowski as the grand prizewinner of the 2006
Mind, Heart and Spirit Award, which acknowledges
and promotes outstanding student athletes from
local high schools.
Ostrowski received a four-year, $26,000 Duquesne
University scholarship and on-field recognition
by a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers organization.
She was selected as the grand-prize winner from
among seven outstanding local high school seniors
who received Mind, Heart and Spirit finalist awards
throughout the Steelers season. In total, more
than 100 area students were nominated for the award
this year.
A senior from Riverview Junior-Senior High School,
Ostrowski is recognized for academics in the classroom,
community service and exuding sportsmanship on
the field.
Ranked first out of 104 seniors, Ostrowski maintains
highest honors and attended the Harvard Summer
School Program. She is captain of the cross-country
team and a member of the track team, running the
1600 and 3200-meter race and the 4x800 meter relay.
Ostrowski recently helped lead her track team to
the state competition.
Ostrowski is also dedicated to community causes
through the Key Club, where she tutors several
younger students, and recently helped a church
in Russia raise money to purchase a truck to serve
the parish. She then spent the majority of
her summer in Russia helping the church and was
present for the truck’s arrival.
A native of Oakmont, PA, Christine is the daughter
of Robert and Palma Ostrowski.
The Mind, Heart and Spirit Award finalists were
honored with game tickets and Jumbotron recognition
at each of the Steelers home games at Heinz Field
this past season. The honorees also received prizes
provided by Duquesne University and the Pittsburgh
Steelers Radio Network.
