| As part of its
efforts to increase international relationships
and focus on global partnerships, the A.J. Palumbo
School of Business Administration has signed an
agreement with Tokyo’s Rikkyo University
College of Business to establish a formal faculty
and student exchange program.
Under the agreement, Duquesne undergraduate and
graduate students will have opportunities to study
in English at Rikkyo University for a semester
or for a year, or to take an intensive summer
program. All of the programs are for full credit
and will focus on marketing, finance and business.
The exchange program is set to begin in April.
Duquesne faculty members will also have the opportunity
to travel to Rikkyo for research collaborations
and teaching experiences.
“The partnership with Rikkyo University
is one piece of the puzzle that we will be constructing
over the next two years,” said Dr. Alan
Miciak, dean of the A.J. Palumbo School of Business
Administration. “It is perfectly reasonable
to expect that every graduate in the school of
business will have some form of international
experience.”
Another important goal of the Duquesne-Rikkyo
partnership is a desire to tap into the knowledge
base that the Japanese have to offer.
“There is little doubt that the Japanese
have had a major impact on management and business
practices globally,” said Miciak. “But
conversely, Rikkyo University is highly motivated
to learn from us as well.”
The school of business anticipates building additional
partnerships with schools around the globe, including
institutions in Europe and South America. Miciak
hopes to enroll 30 students in the program within
two years and growing that number in subsequent
years.
Duquesne University
Duquesne is a private, coeducational university
offering an extensive selection of undergraduate
and graduate degree programs across 10 schools
of study. Duquesne is consistently ranked among
the nation’s top Catholic universities for
its award-winning faculty and 128-year tradition
of academic excellence.
