Kevin Powell—author, journalist, political
activist, historian and cast member of MTV’s
The Real World (season one)—will present
Who’s Gonna Take the Weight? Manhood, Race

A replica of Harlem’s signature venue for
black performers in the 1920s, this event will

A Legacy of Love: Baldwin, King and Social
Transformation
Both James Baldwin and Martin Luther King Jr.
taught that love can be a revolutionary act—the
basis for social transformation. This talk pays
tribute to them and their belief in the power
of love. Presented by Dr. Kathy Glass, assistant
professor of English at Duquesne.

A Musical Tribute for Black History Month

Sunday, Feb. 20
Second Annual Gospel Explosion
Sponsored by Duquesne University’s New Beginnings
gospel choir, this evening of gospel music includes
James Zieglar and Another Level, and for the first
time, college singing groups from other schools,
including Slippery Rock University, Carlow University
and the University of Pittsburgh.

Tuesday, Feb. 22
Working While Black: Campus to Corporate
Are you prepared to compete? Competition denotes
striving for the same position, prize or object
as another. So, as you compete in the workforce,
you must make a conscious effort to manage the
workplace and choose to do your best on the job
while realizing you are competing with more than
what lies on the surface. Presented by Duquesne
Career Services Counselor Valerie Harper.
