Kathryn Egan,
a student at Shady Side Academy, has been named
the 2004 recipient of Duquesne University’s
Mind, Heart and Spirit Award.
The award is designed to recognize achievement
in the classroom, athletic accomplishments and
community service. Kathryn will receive a $26,000
scholarship to Duquesne University.
Kathryn, of Gibsonia, was nominated for the award
by Karen L. Serdy, her guidance counselor.
"The minute that she arrived at Shady Side
Academy, Kathryn began contributing," said
Serdy. "She eagerly joined into classroom
discussion and work, made the varsity soccer team
and went out of her way to befriend others."
In addition to stellar academic accomplishments,
Kathryn takes part in many extracurricular activities
and for four years has been a standout on the
varsity soccer team. She was co-captain of the
girls’ varsity soccer and track teams. She
also spends time helping others through volunteer
work with Passavant Hospital, a soccer clinic
for disadvantaged children, the Pittsburgh Ballet
Theater and T.H.A.N.K.S., a Shady Side Academy
program to help children in need.
Kathryn received the Mind, Heart and Spirit
Award at a recent Pittsburgh Steelers game. The
award is given annually, with honorees receiving
prizes provided by Duquesne University and the
Pittsburgh Steelers Radio Network. |
