The Red Masquers Present the Greek Tragedy ‘Antigone’
January 23, 2004

The Duquesne University Red Masquers will present “Antigone” Jan. 29-31 and Feb. 5-7 in the Peter Mills Auditorium on campus. All performances are 8 p.m. with a special 2 p.m. matinee performance added on Feb. 7.

“Antigone,” based on Sopocles’ Greek tragedy, opens with the deaths of Antigone’s brothers Polynicies and Eteocles, who have killed each other as a result of Polynicies’ rebellion against the crown. Her Uncle Creon seizes the throne, forbidding the burial of Polynicies. Disobeying her uncle, Antigone buries her brother and is then imprisoned by Creon.

The production is being directed by John E. Lane, Jr., with light design by Lane and Coco Roy. Costume design is by Brittany Chabak and the production is stage managed by Brian Witherow.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for seniors and students. Admission is free to Duquesne University students. Group rates are also available. Call 412.396.6215 for more information and for reservations.
