The Duquesne University Nonprofit Leadership Institute (NLI) will present the workshop “Managing Risk and Uncertainty: A Framework for Nonprofit Leaders,” on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, from 1:30 - 4 p.m. in the Fisher Hall Conference Center on Duquesne’s campus. Melanie Herman, CEO of the Nonprofit Risk Management Center in Washington, D.C., is the featured speaker.
The workshop is designed to help nonprofit board members and staff understand their roles and responsibilities with respect to risk. In addition, the session will provide a framework for identifying a nonprofit’s risks and how to determine what can be done to protect a nonprofit’s assets. Herman will address common risk-management myths that get nonprofit agencies into trouble, including delegating risk management to staff and buying enough insurance.
Herman has written and co-written more than 15 books on a broad variety of risk management issues, and makes several presentations annually on risk management, liability and insurance topics. She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the American Bar Association. The Nonprofit Risk Management Center is widely recognized as the authority for objective information and resources linked to the subject of risk management for nonprofit agencies.
Co-Sponsored by Dewey & Kaye, ProArts, Allied Insurance Brokers and the NLI at Duquesne, the workshop is $30 per person. To register, call 412.394.3353 Monday through Saturday, between 12-5:30 p.m. or visit www.proartstickets.org/workshops.cfm.
